The Frightened Fawn

The storm raged on into the late afternoon.
It was dark--so dark--it will be night very soon.
A lost little fawn from the storm tries to flee
Exhausted she stops near an old maple tree.

Spots of white yet she wore on a brown summer's coat
Sprinkled on from its tail, to the crest of its throat.
Inquisitive nose sniffs the air for a clue
She can't find her mother--what will she do?

Like a statue she stands watching the storm
Then nuzzles the tree to try and keep warm.
Unsure of the day as it turns into night
Without her mother, things just aren't right.

Lightning bolts rip holes in the sky
While the rolling of thunder, echoes nearby.
Not a soft spot to lie in such a miserable place
Now the howl from a wolf, makes her little heart race.

Much of the time, the night remains black
And for some strange reason, the hair on her back
Stands up on edge, as danger seems near--
What more could happen to this lost little deer?

Then--lightning and thunder in one gigantic blast
Demolished the tree, sent her running so fast…
With that came the end of the storm, came the dawn
Now the doe goes to search for her lost little fawn.

Rules Regarding Toilet Seats

(To all of us men and boys)

When you're alone in the wilderness
You can pee upon a tree
No woman's going to fault you
You can be so wild and free.

When you sail the deep blue sea
In a small and open boat
And the urge to take a pee
Hits you hard and makes you bloat

Just hang over the side my friend
But don't pee on your coat
And don't fall overboard, you hear
But if you do hope you can float.

When Uncle Sam calls you to serve
At home or in a distant land
He has trained you differently
And his way he will demand.

Now his way is always right
When the uniform you wear
Make sure the seat is ALWAYS UP
No excuses, he doesn't care.

So listen up you men and boys
You're in HER boudoir now
And don't forget HER set of rules
Just remember them somehow.

Now whether you end up
With a smile or ugly frown
When you're through "peeing", sir
You'd better put HER seat back DOWN!
